Good Thing, the follow up to Leon’s critically acclaimed, award winning, certified Gold debut album Coming Home, was Executive Produced by Ricky Reed and Niles City Sound and Produced by Ricky Reed. Leon and his long time collaborators and Coming Home producers, Niles City Sound, headed out west to work with Reed with the goal of taking Leon’s music in a more modern R&B direction while staying true to his signature style.
Prior to the full release of Good Thing, Leon treated fans to break out tracks “Beyond”, and prior to that, “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” and “Bad Bad News”. Leon, known for his aesthetic and personal style, released visuals for the latter two of the tracks; directed by Natalie Rae the videos can be seen here and here. “Bad Bad News” has soared to a Top 5 ranking at Triple A Radio in just 4 weeks.
Critical and fan support for Leon never wavered, with the album locking in positive reception from Esquire and Billboard to Rolling Stone and Relix, whose cover Leon currently graces. Newsweek proclaims the album to be “…wide-ranging” and notes that Good Thing’s modern sound is “…anything but bad, bad news.” Stereogum enthuses that Good Thing is “…a pleasing creative evolution that builds upon his classic foundation without leaving it behind.” NPR’s All Things Considered will air a feature interview with Leon on May 4th and he will perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the week of May 7th.
Leon will also support the release of Good Thing with an extended tour. The tour has multiple sold out dates including two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and a sold out night at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. For tickets, timing and additional details please visit Leon’s website.
Good Thing is born from the song “Bad Bad News”, which contains the line “They say that I was born to lose, but I made a good good thing, out of bad bad news”. By now Leon’s backstory is well known; he went from working as a dishwasher and struggling through the open mic scene in his native Fort Worth, Texas to two-time Grammy nominated artist performing at the White House for President Obama, attending the Met Gala and appearing on Saturday Night Live in a two year span. Now a more experienced artist, this album showcases a man’s continued rise from little opportunity to embracing the world stage. As noted by Garden & Gun writer Matt Hendrickson, “If Coming Home was Leon Bridges in black and white, then Good Thing is Leon Bridges in Technicolor”.
